Description:

The photo depicts a group of women and men, mainly young ones. Most of women are wearing festive folk costume. A man sitting in a chair is holding an accordion. According to the photo owner’s account, it depicts a group of youths attending evening courses run by teacher Zofia (…), who were together practicing for a show – it was a sort of an amateur theatre. At the back of the photo there is the following inscription: “Bolesławów 8.07.1918. For Zochna, so that she stays as dedicated to pupils and education as she has been for these last three years and has warm memories of our entire group, Zofia (…)” ; 1918, July the 8th, Bolesławów ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
