Description:

The photo depicts a group of people festively dressed posing in front of an altar with a painting of the Holy Mother (?). The altar is covered with a white cloth, decorated with flowers and green birch tree branches. According to its owner, the photo comes from 1918 and depicts a group of people after an annual church celebration of the Corpus Christi Day in the village of Kokoszyce, a parish that constituted a part of the parish commune of Pszów as a “kuratoryjna” [curatorian] parish ; Corpus Christi Day 1918, Kokoszyce, district Pszów, com. Rybnik ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
