Description:

The photo shows an elegant young woman arm in arm with a man in a uniform (most probably of the German army or a paramillitary organisation) and a 4-year-old boy. The woman is dressed in a long, white, embroidered tunic with a darker-coloured stripe, a light-coloured skirt and white shoes. The blond boy is wearing a dark-coloured, two-part garment: shorts, a jacket buttoned up at the neck and a white blouse with a turn-down collar. The man with the bushy mustache is standing arms akimbo. The photo was taken in a photographer’s workshop ; According to the owner of the photo, it was taken in 1917 and shows her grandparents, Leokadia and Stanisław (...) and their firstborn child (born 1913) ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
